Heritage Minutes, also known officially as Historica Minutes: History by the Minute, are a series of sixty-second short films, each illustrating an important moment in Canadian history. They appear frequently on Canadian television and in cinemas before movies and are now also sold on DVD. The Minutes were first introduced on March 31, 1991 as part of a one-off heavily-promoted history quiz show hosted by Rex Murphy. The thirteen original short films were broken up and run between shows on CBC Television and CTV Network. The continued broadcast of the Minutes and the production of new ones was pioneered by Charles Bronfman's CRB Foundation, Canada Post Power Broadcasting, and the National Film Board. They were devised, developed and largely narrated by noted Canadian broadcaster Patrick Watson, while the producer of the series was Robert Guy Scully. In 2009 Historica merged with The Dominion Institute to become The Historica-Dominion Institute. While the foundations have not paid networks to air Minutes, they have made them freely available, and in the early years paid to have them run in cinemas across the country. The California Raisin Show is an animated television series based on the claymation advertising characters The California Raisins. The show is based on an Emmy Award-winning claymation special, Meet the Raisins!, which originally aired on CBS in 1989. After the show's 13-episode run, a sequel to the original special, Raisins: Sold Out!: The California Raisins II, aired in 1990. While the characters are traditionally depicted in claymation, the TV show was cel animated by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson. It did, however, maintain Will Vinton as creative director and executive producer. It takes place in a world populated by anthropomorphic fruits and vegetables and focuses on the main characters, the California Raisins: A.C., Beebop, Stretch, and Red. Myglaren was the first made-for-television film produced in Sweden, airing on 31 May 1966. It was commissioned by the national television broadcaster Sveriges Television and directed by Jan Myrdal and Rune Hassner. The film, which was written by Myrdal, has been labeled as "one of the first successful political films in Sweden." It tells the story of a man, myglaren, who works for the well-being of the employees at an organization presented as "the movement", hinting at the labour movement or the Social Democrats. Through various schemes, he is able to climb the ladder of success and foster himself and his work. The man works flexibly and manipulates his surroundings, allowing him to build a successful career and become a known name in Swedish well-being research. At the end he is assigned to start a governmental authority to foster the well-being of people in the society. The film shows his way to the top through fancy dinners, relationship making, and his handling of the media. Myglaren is 86 minutes long and was filmed in black-and-white. Christer Strömholm plays the lead role in the film. The film was a sensation in Sweden and after six airings on television, it reached a larger audience than any prior Swedish film had. Myglaren was a sharp, modern social satire, a format that is unlikely to have been used in any previous Swedish films. Following the multiple airings of Myglaren, the noun "myglare" has been a common expression in Sweden. The dictionary Svensk ordbok defines it as a person who advances his or her own interests by scheming.
